History

Originally known as the Long Preston Mechanics Institute

As in every English village, the Long Preston Village Hall along with the village school, church and pub are the community focal points.
The village hall, a registered charity, is run by volunteers who also form the management committee.

The land on which it stands was gifted to the village by the Duke of Devonshire and the building was originally known as The Mechanics Institute. However, thanks to Yorkshire canniness, its status was later changed to that of village hall, thus gaining eligibility for improvement grants.

In addition to the hall itself, there is also a well-equipped kitchen and a snooker room. The hall is home to numerous village organisations and activities, some of which are listed below. It is also available for rental to outside bodies and private individuals for functions, parties, children's parties and meetings.

Regular users: Girlguiding UK, Age Concern, Art Groups, Women's Institute, Pilates group and Parish Council.
